FEAR THE NIGHT
Format: Short Film
Horror / Fantasy
SYNOPSIS
A young Englishman traveling through Eastern Europe, on a business trip, finds himself abandoned and alone in the Carpathian Mountains. Forced to continue his journey on foot, he ventures further off the beaten path and deeper into the strangely alluring forest.
But this is a place the locals believe to be cursed, a haunted and forsaken place, where the dead travel fast.
No ordinary short film
FEAR THE NIGHT will be filmed entirely using smartphones, using a dedicated film app, FILMIC PRO, to enable us to really maximize the phone’s inbuilt camera and giving us professional camera features such as the ability to shoot in 24 frames per second (the standard film rate).
We will also use specialized lenses such as the anamorphic lens from Moondog Labs, a company who has sponsored our previous film, 7 DAYS – The Story of Blind Dave Heeley, which was also partly shot with iPhones.
As filmmakers we really want to push the boundaries of what is possible with smartphone cameras.
Most films currently shot using smartphones, although boasting impressive image quality, lack a sense of visual cinematic beauty. Indeed, the filmmakers themselves will often say they chose to shoot on smartphones because they have a gritty documentary look.
We want to prove it is possible to shoot a visually beautiful, truly cinematic film on a smartphone.
When the film is completed
When the film is completed, we intend to enter it into various film festivals around the world, including several festivals specializing in smartphone made movies and it will be available for digital download to the general public for a small fee.
PRE-VISUALS / CONCEPT ART
The film will have a very stylistic visual style, evoking the horror films of the 1920s while also drawing inspiration from both the Hollywood Universal Studio horror movies of the 1930s and 1940's, and the Hammer classics of the 1950s and 1960s.
For us, these are the decades where horror films had the greatest sense of atmosphere and creative expression.
